New walls is a wall design tool for anyone deciding how to finish a room. Upload a photo of your room, choose a wall finish such as Sage green, Limewash, Wood slats, Zellige or Botanical wallpaper, and see the same room with only the walls changed: the furniture, floor and windows stay where they are.

How it works

  1. Upload a photo of your room
  2. Choose a wall finish
  3. See the result, then save it or keep going

What it is good for

Use it before you buy paint or hire a tiler. A color card is small, and a whole wall looks different in your own light, next to your own sofa and floor. Try Deep green and Warm white on the same photo, or compare Panel molding with Wood slats in a bedroom, and keep the one that suits the room. It helps renters testing a color or a wallpaper, and owners planning a bathroom in Subway tile.

Tips for the photo

Stand where the walls fill most of the frame, and hold the phone level at eye height so corners stay straight. Take the photo in the light you know the room by: daylight, or lamps in the evening. Take down what hangs on the walls to see the finish on its own; what you leave there stays in the picture. Open walls show a finish best, and a wall hidden behind a wardrobe changes little.

What it does not do

It shows an idea as a picture. It does not measure your walls, work out how much paint or tile you need, or order anything. It gives every wall in the photo the same finish and cannot pick out a single feature wall. It keeps the furniture, floor, ceiling, windows, doors and camera angle of your photo, though small details where a wall meets them may shift. A color on a screen also differs from paint in the can, so try a real sample on the wall before you buy.

Is it free to try?

Yes. The free plan gives you 3 designs a day, with a watermark. Pro raises that to 50 designs a day and removes the watermark.

Can I try wallpaper, tiles or stone, not just paint?

Yes. Besides paint colors, the wall finishes include Limewash, Polished plaster, Microcement, Exposed brick, Natural stone, Marble, Subway tile, Zellige, Botanical wallpaper and Striped wallpaper.

Will it change my furniture or floor?

No. It changes only the walls and keeps the furniture, floor, windows and lighting of your photo.

Which rooms work?

Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and home offices, as long as the walls are clearly visible in the photo.
