What the room planner is good for
Use it before you push a heavy sofa across the floor. It helps when you move into a new home with your old furniture, when a desk or a cot already in the room needs a better place, or when a room has never felt right. Choose the room, from a living room or bedroom to a studio apartment or a majlis, then what the new layout should do, such as Better flow, a Work corner or More light. Try several goals on one photo and compare them before you lift anything.
Tips for the photo
Stand in a corner or the doorway and hold the phone level at chest height, so most of the floor and every large piece of furniture are in the frame: the tool can only move what it can see. Take the photo in daylight, open the curtains and switch on the lights. Clear bags, boxes and laundry off the floor first, since anything left there stays in the picture. In a small room, use your phone's wide lens.
What it does not do
The result is a picture of an idea, not a plan. It does not measure the room, check that a wardrobe fits between two windows or move anything for you. It keeps your furniture and decor, with their materials and colors, and your walls, windows, doors and floor, and changes only where the pieces stand. Small objects may shift or look a little different, so measure before you carry anything heavy.
