Lunar New Year

Red lanterns, blossoms and oranges

Free · 3 designs a day

Lunar New Year is one of Renova's 15 occasion themes. Upload a photo of your room, house or garden, and it decorates that space for the holiday with red lanterns, red and gold Chinese knots, a potted kumquat tree, peach and plum blossom and a tray of mandarin oranges. It is for families and hosts planning their decorations.

How it works

  1. Upload a photo of your room, house or garden
  2. See the result, then save it or keep going

When it helps

Use it in the weeks before Lunar New Year, whether your family calls it Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival or Tết. It helps you decide where things go: lanterns at the door or over the dining table, a kumquat tree by the entrance, blossom branches in a tall vase, and oranges for visiting family. It works for a flat, a family house, a front porch or a garden, so you can compare the inside and the outside before you shop for the holiday.

Tips for the photo

Take the photo of the place guests see first, or where the family eats together: the front door and porch, the living room or the dining room. Clear away shoes, bags and clutter, as you would in the big clean before the new year. Stand back to include the door frame, some floor and a little ceiling, because lanterns hang high and the kumquat tree stands on the floor. Hold the phone level at chest height. Daylight gives the clearest photo, and an evening photo with the lamps on works too.

What it does not do

Each result is an idea shown as a picture. It keeps your furniture, walls, floor, windows, doors, plants and camera angle, and adds only what could be put up for the holiday and taken down after, though small details may shift. It writes no words or characters, so it adds no spring couplets or good-fortune signs with writing on them. It does not measure your space or order decorations.

Questions and answers

Is it free to try?

Yes. The free plan gives you 3 designs a day, and each decorated photo counts as one. Pro raises that to 50 designs a day and removes the watermark.

Is it the same as Chinese New Year?

Yes. Lunar New Year is the wider name for Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, and for Tết in Vietnam. The theme adds decorations these celebrations share: red lanterns, knots, blossom, a kumquat tree and mandarin oranges.

Can I decorate the outside of my house?

Yes. Upload a photo of your front door, porch, balcony or garden, and it decorates the space outdoors in the same spirit, keeping the house, its doors and windows, and your plants as they are.

Can I choose the colors or the decorations?

Not in this theme: Lunar New Year has no options, so each design picks its own arrangement. Make it again from the same photo to see another version.
