Who it is for

It helps when your yard is bare, worn or hardly used, and you want to see what it could become before you dig or buy plants. You can compare a few directions, such as a low-water Desert garden and a lush Tropical one, before you talk to a landscaper. It works for a small back garden, a front yard by the street or a walled courtyard.

Tips for your photo

Take the photo in daylight, on a dry day if you can, so the lawn, beds and fences show their real colors. Stand at the back door, on a terrace or in a corner of the plot and hold the phone straight, so the picture shows the whole garden and its edges. Include the fences or walls and a little of the house: they tell the design where the garden ends. Move hoses, toys and bins out of the way first, because the design works from what it can see.

What it does not do

The result is a picture of an idea, not a planting plan. It does not measure the plot, list plants, check your soil or climate, or order anything. It keeps the house, the walls and fences, the drive, the paths to the door, the size and shape of the plot and the camera angle. It may replace the lawn, the beds, other paths, the lighting and the outdoor furniture. Before you buy plants, check which ones grow well where you live.

Is garden design free in Renova?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 designs a day, and its designs carry a watermark. Pro raises the limit to 50 designs a day.

Which garden styles can I choose from?

There are 14 styles, from Modern minimal and English cottage to Japanese, Moroccan courtyard and Wildflower meadow. For a garden that needs little water, try Desert, and for vegetables and herbs, try Kitchen garden.

Does it work for a front garden?

Yes. Upload a photo of your front yard: the design keeps the house, the drive and the paths to the door, and changes the planting, lighting and furniture around them.

Can I use it for a small garden?

Yes. The design keeps the size and shape of your plot, so a small garden stays small and gets planting, paths and furniture that fit it. A narrow back garden or a courtyard is fine too.
