What it is good for

Use it before you talk to a builder or buy paint. A facade is hard to picture from a color card or a magazine photo, and your house has its own shape, roof and windows. Try Modern farmhouse and Craftsman on the same photo, or see a 1970s house as Mid-century. It helps owners planning a renovation, buyers looking at a house that needs work, and anyone choosing new siding, render or trim.

Tips for the photo

Stand across the street or at the end of the drive, so the whole front of the house and its roofline fit in the frame. Hold the phone level at eye height and face the house straight on, or from a slight angle that also shows one side. Take the photo in daylight, without strong shadows across the facade. Move cars and bins out of the way if you can: what hides the house may stay in the picture.

What it does not do

It shows an idea as a picture. It does not measure the house, choose products, check local building rules or price the work. It keeps the shape, size and roofline of your house, its window and door openings, and the camera angle. It changes the facade materials, colors, roof finish, windows, doors, outdoor lighting and front planting to match the style. Ask a builder or an architect what can really be done.

Is exterior design free in Renova?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 designs a day, and its designs carry a watermark. Pro raises the limit to 50 designs a day.

Will it change the shape of my house?

No. It keeps the building's shape, size and roofline, its window and door openings and the camera angle. It changes the materials, colors and details around them.

Which styles can I choose from?

There are 14 styles, including Modern, Modern farmhouse, Coastal, Mediterranean, Craftsman, Tudor and Najdi. You can also choose a color palette, such as Warm whites or Relaxing blues, or pick Surprise me.

Can I try modern farmhouse exterior colors on my house?

Yes. Choose Modern farmhouse, then a color palette: High-contrast neutrals gives white, gray and black, and Warm whites gives a softer look. Try a few on the same photo and compare them.
